Today I dedicated my ride to honor Veteran SSG Michael “Adam” Emory. SSG Emory, we can’t thank you enough for your service and the sacrifice you have made for our freedom! You are such an inspiration and we appreciate you! Please take a moment and watch his story!
I slept in again, ugh. My bed at the Whispering Sands Motel was comfy, or I was just really tired last night. I’m really not a morning person. It’s hard to go from a night owl to an early bird. I tried to make it out before it got to hot today. It was 89 at 10am when I started. I had some oatmeal in the hotel room. Kelly was still sleeping and the plan was that she would meet me at Goblin State Park.
The ride was a lot of fun for me again even though I was melting and had side winds galore towards the end of the ride! When I ride I think of the person I am dedicating the ride to and often pray for him or her. Today while I was thinking of SSG Emory, I passed an Emery County sign. Even though it is spelled differently that made day. What are the odds of that happening? That was so cool for me. I had to take a photo of it.
I got close to Goblin State Park and was running out of energy. The heat was getting me and I had run out of all my drinks. I was kicking myself for not leaving earlier and not packing one more bottle of water. It was 93 degrees, but the Garmin had it at 100 degrees with the heat radiating off the road. It was impressive. I had to stop a few times because I was getting dizzy. I heard a car coming from behind me and I was silently hoping it was Kelly so I could call it quits. The last 10 miles meant about an hour longer in this heat and I wasn’t doing well physically at all. I needed another layer of sunscreen and I had forgotten to pack that as well. The car WAS Kelly! Woohoo! Kelly to the rescue! She brought me lunch, and a cold coke. Love her! I toweled off and thew the bike on the rack and we headed to see all the Goblins that the State Park had to offer. What a cool little park. There were so many little hoodoos all over the place. Some big, some small. Many reminded me of penis sculptures erected everywhere. We had a good laugh and enjoyed walking amongst such erected structures.
We headed back to Hanksville for a steak dinner at Duke’s Slickrock Grill, thank you Arch and Catherine Martin! I am actually turning in my midnight owl wings to wake up before sunrise. I have a long long ride tomorrow. Hoping to make 100 miles.
Thanks again for all who have supported us through your prayers, encouraging texts, and your donations throughout our journey. You’re the best! We appreciate you so much! Thank you also to those who have supported HFOT. Your donations to them help disabled Veterans , like SSG Michael “Adam” Emory, get a chance at reclaiming some of their personal freedoms in a new home. Many thanks! blessed, and pray for me tomorrow. I hit some of the longest stretches without any service.
