Wednesday the 22nd of June Kelly and I arrived in IN to mom and dad’s. It was a great stop for both of us. I needed some time for my saddle sore to heal up before the last leg of my trip. No better place to heal and relax than at Mom and Dad’s. Mom made us wonderful home cooked meals which we both have been craving since every meal is on the road. Sometimes it’s just nice to have a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch instead of a protein bar.
Thursday, June 23rd, We made a much needed stop to see how Donita was doing and was so impressed with her progress. I am so thankful that she has a church body that has helped her with dinners, her yard, building a ramp and just coming by to spend time with her. It warmed my heart to see her and was quite emotional at times. Lot’s of tears and stories were shared between the two of us. It helped me so much to see her in person. We unloaded all her trip stuff and her bike that we have had this whole time. She was happy to get it all back saying it will be motivation for her to get better seeing her bike everyday. She is one strong woman and an inspiration! Thursday night we were so happy to be able to see our nephew, Connor, play in his baseball championship game. Yay!! Loved see my brother and the rest of his fun lovin family too!
Friday, June 24th, mom and dad ran errands with me to get my oil changed, tires rotated, car debugged and cleaned, Then we got to make dinner. We didn’t go out to eat! We wanted a “momma home-cooked dinner! Pretty happy about that.
Saturday, June 25th, today, we loaded up the car for our way final leg of the journey. wow! We have soooo much more room now without Donita’s bike in there. On the way out of IN we made a few stopped to see Kelly’s friend and daughter. It was a much needed break to be back
home in Indiana for a few days.
Tonight we are staying at my college friends apartment. Eric has been a be encourager to me on this journey since the moment I learned Donita was in an accident. I’ve only chatted with him since college to get info about camera equipment. He is a photographer. When he read about Donita he called me to encourage me to continue with my ride no matter what it looked like. He is also an avid cyclist, more so than I am, so he’s words of encouragement along with my family’s really helped me get back on the bike and do the adventure no matter what it looked like. We will be riding a short ways together tomorrow in Louisville, KY. Thanks Eric, for letting us stay here, for feeding us and for the great conversations!
