Today I dedicated my ride to honor SGT Robert Barber and thank him for his service to our country. Please take a moment to check out his story. Thank you SGT Barber for your service and your sacrifice for our freedom. You are a hero.
Oh my goodness, can I just say I LOVE riding in Kentucky’s countryside. It is so picturesque! Rolling hills and horse farms everywhere. Things I didn’t like though…DOGS, they are roaming everywhere. I never knew when I was going to get chased! For the love of God, people controls your beast! Toward the end of my route I was getting winded climbing a hill and I wasn’t going very fast either. Out of the corner of my eye I see and then hear two dogs coming after me. I beat them past their property but the fools kept running, this time faster than I could climb the hill. They were little ankle bitter dogs and that’s what they did, grabbed onto my ankle and wouldn’t let go. I was screaming and cussing at these foul beast. The car that was coming toward me in the other lane saw what was happening and started to honk their horn continuously hoping that would get them off me. Then a car coming up behind me also was honking his horn. I had to stop in the middle of the lane because they were attached to me and I couldn’t unclip that shoe from the pedal. He put his car in park and got out of his car screaming at the dogs too. The dogs finally let go of my shoe and went away. I was so grateful they were not big dog. Lord have mercy, I would have been in big trouble then with bites that would have needed stitches. I was sooooo angry. I thanked the drivers and said I was okay, just a little blood drawn, not too bad. I had to make it up the rest of the hill starting with zero gas. Ugh! Just added salt to my wounded pride getting attacked by ankle biters. I had lost my pepper spray that I carry with me on Missouri’s rough roads. If I would have had it, I would have shown those little demon dogs who was boss.
Other than that, the day was absolutely beautiful. I would have loved another riding day in KY. I stopped shortly after that attack and we made our way to the Comfort Inn Grundy, VA. (Thank you Mike and Sheryl Murphy for your personal donation that went toward this night) It’s a different kind of place, this Grundy. It is nestled in the southwest corner of VA close to the KY boarder in the region of the Cumberland Plateau. Tomorrow we will drive part of the original route I was going to take with Donita and I will ride the rest of it near the NC boarder around Damascus, then head to Wilmington, NC where I will finish up. I have chosen Wilmington to end my journey because the Outer Banks where I was originally going to finish is a lot longer drive for me to get home. My son is in a baseball tournament on the 5th in Atlanta, and I just don’t want to miss him playing anymore this summer.
Thanks again for all who have supported us through your prayers, encouraging texts, and your donations throughout our journey. You’re the best! We appreciate you so much! Thank you also to those who have supported HFOT. Your donations to them help disabled Veterans, like SGT Robert Barber , get a chance at reclaiming some of their personal freedoms in a new home. Many thanks!
Enjoy the photos. Most are Kelly’s. Night, Be Blessed!
