Photography and Travel Adventures: Dare to Dream, Desire to Explore, Discover the Extraordinary

Easy Breezy Day 6

After yesterday’s ride and all that happened and knowing I had to ride through Wilmington, NC during morning traffic I was really dreading getting out of bed. I made it out the door and on the road a little ways when I realized I had left my cycle gloves back at the hotel.  I did remember my water bottles though, so that was a plus.  So I turned back and retrieved them.  Wilmington is a very cycle friendly city.  I had a bike path the whole way through the center of town.  It was great! Then I made it to River Road and I had 8 miles of basically me and the road along a river.  It was a great morning ride and I would ride through Wilmington anytime!  Carolina Beach and Kure Beach are nice quiet beach towns with beautiful homes.  I want to go back and spend some time at Fort Fisher to enjoy its twisted windblown trees, rocks, nicely kept beach. On the ferry ride to Southport, NC I made a little feather friend who stayed with me the whole 35 minute ride. After leaving Gil (yes, I named him) I only had one goal in mind and that was to get as far into Myrtle Beach as possible. The plan was that Kaitie would pick me up and we would drive to Charleston to start our weekend with Derek.  I didn’t want to have to come back to Myrtle Beach after the weekend to begin my last part of my trip.  From Southport to Supply was on hwy 211 and it was doable.  The constant hum of traffic was wearing me out, but I could always drain it out and focus on the  songs of the Cicadas.  They helped me keep cadence with their loud tunes to which I was most grateful.  Supply, NC to Calabash, NC was a very scenic road.  I would love to return to Sunset Beach and visit the Bird Island Reserve one day.  I am not a golfer, but the golf course here looks really nice compared to the one we live on.  I was happy that today was the day that I would cross over into South Carolina.  I had to stop and take a picture of the sign, and got honked at several times because there was no shoulder, but it had to be done.  I managed to ride through North Myrtle Beach without any problems and Kaitie had just arrived in Myrtle Beach about that same time.  The even traffic was kicking up and my tuckus had had enough for the day, so we met at Barefoot Landing and had some fish and crabs for dinner.  A perfect ending to a great riding day.  We got a hotel on the South side of Myrtle Beach so that I can skip the morning traffic and put in a few miles before head to Charleston for the weekend.  At this point I don’t mind missing out on busy city riding.  Check out my route from today on RidewithGPS.
